The Provence, radiant between Aix, noble and rich, and Marseilles, with a busy trading activity, still has the sumptuous way of life of the old aristocracy. The high society has always had an interest in every current of thoughts without denying its Provencal identity.
An art support group has enabled some eclectic artists to express themselves in towns as well as in the countryside. The number of country houses increased dramatically during the 17th and 18th centuries, revealing, not only their rich interior designs, but also their parks and gardens, very cleverly designed.
Beyond the architecture of the country houses and their gardens, we will also discover the complexity of a social project which ruled for more than 2 centuries the financial market: agriculture and therefore, the landscape of an entire region.
