It is 1971 and Chile is the promised land. It is a time to celebrate the first anniversary of Salvador Allende’s election victory. Raymond Depardon is to meet with the President but decides instead to travel south to capture the enigmatic faces of the peasant farmers and capture a different portrait of the country. “What caught my eye looking at these photographs, were the faces of a world on the verge of extinction. I was moved by them then and I still am today”. – Raymond Depardon
