Jean Lurçat’s art (1892-1966), remains one of the greatest visual creations of the 20th century. Fraternal but yet marginal, understanding the art movements without following them, Lurçat got noticed thanks to the variety of his skills: painting, tapestry, engraving, ceramics… Mournful canvas done during the First World War, happy tapestries made during peaceful time, not forgetting threatening paintings from the period between the two wars, this is a vision of his time that Lurçat’s art is showing us.
