This exhibition catalog of the Rodin Museum confronts the works of American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) to those of Rodin, in a strong dialogue. The first beautiful sculpt the body through its objective, and the second use of photography throughout his career, nothing seems to link the two artists. One chasing the perfect form, the other insists on capturing movement in the area.
Nothing spontaneous in Mapplethorpe meticulous, while Rodin relies on dazzling gesture, even accepting the accidental expression. Hyper planes controlled from a tormented echo-round bumps on the other. The fragmentation of the body, their compulsive examination, draped who barely conceal sign a joint quest, also sensual. Apart nearly a century, the two works have countless similarities and produce striking diptychs.
