FRIENDS OF 7L

Becoming a member of the Circle of Friends of 7L means participating in the creative life of an intimate and welcoming place of wonder, where books are at the heart of all artistic encounters and conversations.

In the tradition of the 18th century, the creation of a monthly Reading Room was an obvious choice. Each month, a renowned figure is invited to talk about their career and the books that have shaped them. At the same time, the Correspondances cultural programme has been designed to perpetuate the creative spirit of the photo studio. Members of the Circle of Friends can attend all the events organised around different disciplines: theatre, reading and performance, dance, music, photography and visual arts. The membership also provides privileged access to the 7L library collection, which is available for on-site consultation.

Being a Friend of 7L means having a special bond with this venue, based on a communal focus on creation, the works themselves, and those who make them and share them with us.

Occupy a place as much as it welcomes you.
Be part of what is created there.

The Reading Room

The Reading Room is the monthly meeting place for the Circle of Friends of 7L. Gathered in the large library-salon around a personality with a passion for reading, the Friends of 7L take part in an exchange around the books that have counted in the guest’s life. With emotion and simplicity, a conversation is woven through the red thread of his beloved books, interspersed with readings and music.

The Reading Rooms are the perfect occasion to bring out Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘trousseau’. A table is set with fine linens, antique porcelain and monogrammed silverware amidst bouquets of flowers. Each salon becomes a unique moment that reflects the personality of the guest of honour.

The Correspondances
cultural programme

Throughout the season, the Correspondances programme offers to members some thirty original events especially conceived or adapted for the 7L.
Designed as in situ creative commissions for contemporary artists and authors, thes encounters give rise to performances, readings, concerts and exhibitions inspired by the thirty-three thousand books and the four hundred vinyles in Karl Lagerfeld’s library.

Each event thus becomes an opportunity for sharing and dialogue, a moment suspended in time where connections are forged between the works and the artists.

The library

Members enjoy privileged access to the 7L library.
With its 33,000 books stacked horizontally, it offers a unique approach to books, transforming the space into a veritable landscape of thoughts.
Usually reserved for the artists invited as part of the Correspondances programme, it can
become a library for members too, open for consulting and discovery.
This world of books is also accompanied by a collection of 400 vinyl records that belonged to our founder, which you can come and listen to during a dedicated visit. Like the books, these recordings feed the imagination and extend the experience of the space, offering another sensitive and intimate mode of exploration.

Immersing themselves in this collection sparks curiosity and is an invitation to take time to read, look, listen or simply contemplate.

The advantages of
the Amis du 7L

Membership also allows organising private events on the exceptional library-stage. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in Karl Lagerfeld’s art de vivre and, with the help of the 7L teams, create a unique and unforgettable setting.
