ÉDITIONS 7L

Founded in 2001 by Karl Lagerfeld, Éditions 7L were relaunched in 2023 with the aim of carrying on the eclectic spirit of its founder’s editorial vision through literature, photography, fashion and the reprinting of rare books. Each publication is conceived with the high production standards associated with art books and a particular focus on ambitious literary commissions that engage in dialogue with visual choices, sometimes enriched by research drawn from the thousands of volumes in the 7L library.

I like the idea of a very diverse catalogue. My choices are guided only by my insatiable curiosity and my innumerable interests.

This fall 2026, Éditions 7L is publishing three new books in the fields of fashion and photography.

In the field of fashion, two books are being published. The first one, Chanel Shows. Fashion mise en scène, traces the evolution of the art of staging collections, from the intimate shows at the Haute Couture salons on Rue Cambon during Gabrielle Chanel’s era to the larger-than-life productions held at the Grand Palais such as the monumental tailored jacket or the planets of the solar system featured in Matthieu Blazy’s debut collection.

The second one, Headwear, Maison Michel – published to mark the 90th anniversary of the prestigious millinery house – opens the door to the history of the hat, its forms and functions, whilst exploring the significance of this indispensable accessory. It traces the development of the House – both a witness to and a key player in almost a century of fashion – by offering a deep dive into its rich archives.

In the field of photography, 22 Loggerstraat, Zaandam by Noémie Ninot is the third volume in the 7L Photography Jury Grand Prix Collection, which celebrates emerging talent discovered at the Hyères Festival – fashion, photography and accessories. Through her images, situated at the crossroads of photography, performance and sculpture, she reminds us that identity is never constructed in isolation: it is made up of borrowings, repetitions, transmissions and metamorphoses, in a dialogue between personal memory and collective history. Three texts, three perspectives (a conversation, a fiction and an essay) shed light on Noémie Ninot’s approach to her work.

Éditions 7L

Éditions 7L were launched in 2001 by Karl Lagerfeld with the aim of publishing works that echoed his amical world, mainly in photography and fashion, with a focus on the production of the book as an object.
Between 2001 and 2019, with the collaboration of Steidl, Éditions 7L published some fifty books before falling dormant following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld.
