After La Chambre des écureuils, Éditions Seghers and Éditions 7L continue to bring to light the literary works of Marie Laure de Noailles, a major 20th-century patron and an emblematic figure in the arts and literary world.

In addition to her role as a patron of the arts, Marie Laure de Noailles is the author of an astonishing body of work, mingling poetry, fiction and literary essays. Last autumn, Éditions Seghers and Éditions 7L reissued La Chambre des écureuils, her autobiographical novel, in a deluxe edition (on fine paper, bounded with canvas). Praised by both critics and the public, this new edition brought her literary work from oblivion to recognition. This new focus carries on with the publication of a second book, bringing together Journal d’un peintre and Lettres provençales.

Originally published in 1957 and 1966 respectively, these two short literary essays are a thrilling reflection upon some of the author’s most cherished themes, bringing together life itself, art, creation, painting, music and writing, alongside a series of Provençal stories and mythologies evoking her deep attachment to Hyères and the South of France.
