Essay by Nathalie Herschdorfer. Short story by Fabienne Radi. Interview by Song Tae Chong with Thaddé Comar and Luis Alberto Rodriguez.

Aujourd’hui presents the Franco-Swiss photographer Thaddé Comar’s latest series, which explores the question of information and the various ways it is staged through the “media machine”. To bear witness to this highly topical subject, Thaddé Comar went to the Assemblée Nationale and the Palais de Justice in Paris, to be at the reactor core. These images of politicians immersed in a forest of microphones, cameras and poles, highlight the media hubbub and our desensitization towards the flood of information. Aujourd’hui inaugurates the new collection of the Grand Prix du jury de la Photographie 7L, revealing a new generation of photographers.

Thaddé Comar

Born in 1993, Thaddé Comar obtained his diploma from the ECAL in Lausanne in 2018. His photographic practice is closely tied up with social movements and current affairs, he works for several years on the Black Bloc movement in Paris. His previous book, How Was Your Dream? (Mörel Books, 2022), dealt with the protests in Hong Kong that took place between June and October 2019 and the new forms of insurrection occurring in highly oppressive countries. Thaddé Comar’s photographic work is regularly exhibited, among others at the Athens Photography Festival, the Fotomuseum Winterthur and the f2 Fotofestival in Dortmund. He currently lives in Paris.

New collection: 7L Photography Grand Jury Prize

The 7L Photography Grand Jury Prize collection is conceived as a collection of histories of contemporary photography, sketched out through the artwork of the laureates of the prize awarded at the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories – Hyères at the Villa Noailles. This collection, accessible to all, showcases the history of photography through the eyes of a new generation of photographers. Each volume opens with an interview between the laureate and the president of the jury, followed by a visual corpus along with a fictional text interpreting the images freely. Each volume closes with an essay recontextualising the photographic project, written by a specialist in the history of the medium. Designed to keep pace with the times, this collection offers with each new book and each new festival a resolutely contemporary vision of the History of Photography.
